Drashot on the Torah, Book of Genesis, from HaRav Brachiya Berech bar Elyakim Getzel; only edition, 38 pages (Friedberg 642). On the title page is the signature of HaRav Yaakov ben Rabbi Tebli Shamash, rabbi of Cluj and head of the Frankfurt yeshiva from 1765 until his death in 1785, a number of years he was also the head of the beit din in Frankfurt-am-Mein, at the same time as Rabbi Pinhas HaLevi Horwitz, the “Hafla’ah” was the rabbi of the city. In 1775 he was chosen to be rabbi of Wurtzberg but rejected the suggestion and stayed as the head of yeshiva in Frankfurt. In the remembrance book of the community it was written about him: “studied and studied, gave and gave lessons on the Talmud Bavli and Yerushalmi, all Jewish texts, and he was eulogized by two greats of his generation.” Generally good condition, some of the title page with the signature is reinforced with glue, missing two pages at the end.
