Auction 7
Lot 202:
Height: 42.5cm, width: 52cm. Good condition. Glass cups are not original. “The tradition to celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah amongst the Bnei Israel in India only dates to the 19th century, seemingly from the influence of the new Baghdadi community or the involvement of the Cochin community. The conjecture exists that the Bnei Israel did not know the holiday because their forefathers arrived in India before the time of the Hasmoneans, during the 2nd century B.C.E.
