For Yom Habahir, the 10th of Shvat 1990, the 40th year of the Rebbe’s leadership, the Rebbe ordered a special (enlarged) edition of the Tanya. A huge number of people showed up to celebrate (around 12,000 people!), from all over the world.

On the 10th of Shvat the Rebbe drove to the Ohel. After he returned from the Ohel he entered the synagogue for Mincha and Maariv. The Admor davened Mincha in front of the Amud. After Mincha, he went up to the BVimah to pray Maariv, said a Sicha for a few minutes, in which he discussed “Vayehi BeArbaim Shana”, “Lev Lada’at” etx. and then he went down to start the Chaluka of the Tanya with the enclosed $1 Bill.

The Chalukah began at 7:10pm (approx.). At the beginning it was disorganized and many "Ozrim” and “Mesadrim” stood around the Rebbe. He turned to them, gave them the Tanya, and motioned to them to leave his side, stating that he could manage without them. In the middle of the Chaluka there was a mess and some pushing and shouting—the Rebbe turned to his secretary and asked what was happening and to get organized. To someone who stood on a table the Rebbe motioned to get off. After a few minutes things got organized and the Chalukah continued (From the Mazkeret Netzach Chalukot Chabad).
