Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach (1887-1954) the father of the Gaon Posek Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, and a descendant of the Admor Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Plonne who was a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. He received his Semicha from Rabbi Chaim Berlin at the age of 18, and in 1906 he founded the Shaar HaShamayim Yeshiva of Mekubalim, even though he was less than 20 years old when it was established.
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (1910-1995) the son of Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach, the Posek Hador for many years. He was among the first to devote all his energies to clarifying contemporary Halachic questions. His first book Me’ori Esh about using electricity on Shabbat was published in 1935.
His disciple Rabbi Yeshayahu Neuwirth published the basic book Shemirat Shabbat Kehilchata based entirely on the Psikah of Rabbeinu, with whom he consulted every step of the way. He was humble and accepted by all the religious sectors in Israel. Hundreds of thousands attended his funeral, which took place in Jerusalem in Adar 1995 and was the largest funeral since the establishment of the state.
