One of the rare books printed in Kushta! Sefer Shut Chaim Benveniste on Tur Orach Chaim (the Responsa of the other sections of the Tur was published later in his book Ba’ei Chayei). The work by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Benveniste, author of Knesset Hagedolah. Based on a manuscript that was owned by Rabbi Chaim Alfandri. First edition – edited by Rabbi Shlomo Ashkenazi. The press of the brothers Reuven and Nissin the sons of Yonah Ashkenazi, Kushtandina, 1743. [1], 52 leaves. Moth perforation and damage. Stains. Trimmed headings affecting the text. Old worn binding. Library stamps. Good-fair overall condition. 

On the title page of the book, the handwritten signature of the author of Heichal Melech, Rabbi Avraham Lev Aryeh:  "מקנת כספי בש’ [בשנת] התקכ"ט, הצעיר אברהם לב אריה". Gloss on leaf 21b – not sudied. 

Rabbi Avraham Raphael Lev Aryeh, one of the leading sages of Jerusalem. A descendant of Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh, who was a Shadar of Jerusalem in 1679. During his journey, Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh was forced to remain by himself in the desert on Sabbath and a lion guarded him, returning him to his convoy on Motza’ei Shabbat. 

Rabbi Avraham, like his fathers, was also a Shadar of Eretz Yisrael. In 1788, he travlled to Livorno, where he met the Chida, who wrote to his son, Rabbi Raphael Yeshaya, the Rav of Ancona, to assist Rabbi Avraham. Author of Heichal Melech containing his many responses and his Chidushim on the Rambam. Also wrote a manuscript titled Avraham Yagel. Passed away in Jerusalem and was buried in the Chassidim Cave on the Mount of Olives.
