Machzor Or LeYisrael, for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, Sephard custom, published by the Hebrew Publishing Company in New York, 1920-1930?. [2], 452 pp. Some stains and marks of usage. Original binding – detached spine. Good overall condition.
On the flyleaf, a notation in Hebrew and English: "חזן ראזענבלאט – Cantor Rosenblatt" and a reference to the Psalms of LeDavid Mizmor and Kadish. Throughout the book, in places where the prayer leader’s prayer is said out loud, there are varied emphases and notations with pencil.
The "King of Cantors", Rabbi Yosef (Yossele) Rosenblatt (1882-1933), a cantor and composer who is considered one of the greatst cantors of all times. Left an amazing legacy of Jewish-European liturgical music which shaped the world of Ashkenzic Chazanut. He composed and adapted over 600 works, most of them prayers and some Jewish folk songs. Many of his composiitons are consirdered classics of the Chazanut world.
