On the title page, an ownership signature of Rabbi Mordechai Dober of Tomashpol: "מרדכי דוב מניזען?" and a notation handwritten by his grandson, Rabbi Menachem Nachum Rabinovich, on the guard leaf, indicating he had inherited the book from his grandfather: "הספר שבות יעקב בא לידי מירושת אאזמו"ר הרהצה"ק [אדוני אבי זקני מורי ורבי הרב הצדיק הקדוש] זצוקלל"ה מטמשפאל, נכדו מנחם נחום רבינוביץ".
Throughout the book, handwritten glosses and corrections, some of them identified as being handwritten by the Admor Rabbi Menachem Nachum Rabinovich and others in an earlier script – possibly handwritten by the Admor Rabbi Mordechai Dober of Tomashpol – we did not have his script for comparison.
The Admor of Tomashpol Rabbi Mordechai Dober Schneerson- Twersky (1848-1920), the son of Rabbi Menachem Nachum Schneerson of Niezhin, the son of the Mitteler Rebbe of Chabad and grandson of Baal Hatanya and the son-inlaw of the Admor Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael of Tshorkos – the son of the Maggid of Chernobyl and grandson of Rabbeinu the Me’or Einayim. Rabbi Mordechai was born in Hornosteipel and grew up in the house of his grandfather, the Rav of Tshorkos, which was why his family name was Twersky rather than Schneerson like his father’s. Married the daughter of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Shitive, the son of Rabbi Yisrael of Pikov the son of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev. His son and successor was Rabbi Chaim Moshe Yeshoshua of Tomashpol; his daughter was the wife of Rabbi Pinchas Rabinovich of Kantikoziva (the father of Rabbi Menachem Nachum who is referred to here).
The Admor Rabbi Menachem Nachum Rabinovich (1887-1959) the son of the Admor Rabbi Pinchas Rabinovich of Kantikoziva. Was Av Beit Din of Haifa and previously, his father’s successor in Voznesensk and the Rosh Yeshiva of Koidinov in Barnovich. Rabbeinu received his Hora’ah Semicha from the Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. Some of his Divrei Torah were published in the book Machshevet Nachum.
