Interesting letter by the Or Torah Yeshiva of Slonim – addressed to the rabbis of the Hebron Yeshiva – hand-signed by the Admor Rabbi Avraham Matityahu Weinberg of Slonim – Tiberius, 1952.

In the letter, the rabbis of the Or Torah Yeshiva thank the heads of the Hebron Yeshiva for the transfer of the money that had been donated via the Hebron Yeshiva to the Or Torah Yeshiva of Slonim in Tiberius. This procedure was common in those days when the post was not very developed, which led many philanthropists to send their donations to their preferred yeshiva with extra sums of money for other yeshivas.

The letter is signed by the following:

-Maran the Admor the author of the Birkat  Avraham of Slonim.

-The stamp of the Gaon Rabbi Asher Zeev Werner.

-Rabbi Pinchas Mintzberg, a leading Slonim Chassid of Tiberius.

Official stationery of the Or Torah Yeshiva.

14X22 cm.

Filing holes. Good condition.

The Admor Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, the Birkat Avraham of Slonim (1888-1941) was the son of Rabbi Noah Weinberg. He was the 5th Admor in the dynasty, a member of the Council of Torah Sages, a businessman and educator. In his youth he travelled a number of times to live with his uncle, the Admor Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg, and even served as his delegation for other rabbis—Rabbi Haim of Brisk, the Chafetz Chaim, and Rabbi Yisrael of Chortkov—including for establishing Agudas Yisrael. He lived in Tiberias, was a member of the Central Council of the World Agudas Yisrael, a gabbay at Yeshivat Ohr Torah, and manager of the Talmud Torah in the city.

In the municipal elections of 1934 he was appointed and was the head of Agudas Yisrael there. In 1955 after the death of Rabbi Mottl Slonim of Tiberias, he was appointed by a secret ballot to be Admor. In 1960 he moved from Tiberias to Jerusalem. He led for another 27 years.
