The Mekubal Rabbi Menachem Mendel Sternberg of Safed (1843-1916) known as Rabbi Mendeleh Deyzher after his Deyzh origin. It is told that often, he forgot to eat since he was so immersed in his study; he also did not notice that mice were nibbling the edges of his boots. He immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and settled in Safed, becoming the spiritual leader of the contemporary Chassidic community of the town.
