Lot 101:
Letter with liness handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog, the Chief Rabbi of Israel – about the Establishment of his enterprises, the Talmudic Encyclopedia and the Complete Israeli Talmud Institute (eventually, Yad Harav Herzog)- addressed to the Central Relief Committee – Jerusalem, 1949.
Background: for years, the two institutions of Rabbi Meir Bar Ilan, the Talmudic Encyclopedia and the Complete Israeli Talmud Institute , operated seperately. After Rabbi Herzog’s passing, the institution was named after him Yad Harav Herzog. In this letter, Rabbi Herzog writes that the issue is of great religious and historical value: עניין נשגב הוא זה, בעל ערך דתי והיסטורי גדול ונאדר, והוא מעין התחלה למה שהובטח לנו בידי נביאי ה’ כי מציון תצא תורה ודבר ה’ מירושלים…. הוצאת העניין לפועל דורשת הרבה עשרות עובדים והנני פונה אליכם בשם תורתנו הק’…".
At the beginning of the letter, Rabbi Herzog handwrote the addressees’ names.
At the end of the letter, he added two lines handwritten by him and his signature: "ידידכם הנאמן מוקירם כערכם הנשגב יצחק אייזק הלוי הרצוג".
