Lot 59:
Letter on a leaf, written on both sides and folded into four pages, handwritten entirely by the daughters of the Rebbe the Rayatz, the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, the Rebbe’s wife, and her sister the Rebbetzin Sheina Hornstein, the wife of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hornstein.
The handwritten letter in Russian was sent from Riga in 1928. In it, the Rebbetzin and her sister write about a visit of "Boris Borisovich" to their home and about the Jews of Riga, a warm letter that was apparently sent to a close friend. The Rebbetzin signed the letter with her name "Mussia". A total of 3 pages handwritten by the Rebbetzin; at their end, her sister the Rebbetzin Sheina, added a page handwritten and signed "Sonia" by her.
Letters handwritten by the Rebbetzin are extremely rare; her important activity in her great father and husband’s shadow always remained backstage. This is a rare peek into the covert feelings of the Rebbetzin, who constantly stood ready to lend a hand for saving the Jews of Russia and reviving USA Jewry.
[1] leaf folded into 4 pages. Approx. 25X16 cm. Fold lines and small tears. Good overall condition.
