Volume with two books: 1. Sefer Maggid Meisharim by Rabbeinu Yosef Karo Maran the Beit Yosef. "Printed here in the community of Polnai Ir Chadash… by Rabbi Shmuel ben Rabbi Yissachar Ber Segal the printer here and of Koretz". 1791/ The title page is missing. Bound with Shut by Rabbeinu Menachem Azarya of Fano. Dhyrenfurth, the press of Rabbi Yechiel Michl Maya. 1788. [2], 88 leaves; [1] leaf at its end is bound here at the beginning of the book. 21 cm. Many moth perforations and damage. Taping, stains and other blemishes. Bound in a new binding. Fair-poor overall condition.
She’erit Yehuda – the Maharil’s writings that have never been published!
We excitedly reveal some of the Torah of the Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Leib of Yanovich – the Maharil, the brother and right-hand-man of Rebbeinu the Admor Hazaken Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, Baal Hatanya and Shulchan Aruch, "who was a household member of Rabbeinu and most of Rabbeinu’s matters were decided by him" (Beut Rebbi, section I, chapter 23). On the first leaf of the book, an entire page handwritten by him on varied halachic matters. On the title page of Shut HaRema of Fano, a notation of the book’s title handwritten by him; inside the book, 2 lengthy and significant glosses handwritten by him.
The identification of the script was done by experts and is based, among others, on the version of the glosses which begin with "ז"א [זה אינו]" which the Maharil used to begin his glosses elsewhere and on notations and scribbles with motifs that are unique to the Maharil. In addition, on verso of the first leaf, there is an ownership notation: "שייך להמופלא הותיק וחסיד אי"א וכו’ כבוד מוהר"ר נחמן ב"ר דוד ב"ח חתן ר"מ שו"ב דק"ק יאנאוויץ". On the lower part of this leaf, an additional handwritten notation: הוא מר"נ בר"ד [רבי נחמן בן רבי דוד – הנ"ל] תמורת גמ’ פסחים… חורף תא"ר [partly erased with a line] טבת עד חצי אלול תר"א".
