Lengthy and warm letter of recommendation – handwritten entirely by Maran Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook, the Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael – given to the Rosh Yeshiva the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Vinograd – Jerusalem, 1932.

The Torat Chaim Yeshiva was one of the oldest and famed yeshivas of Jerusalem. It was established by the Geonim Rabbi Yitzchak Vinograd and his brother, Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu, in 1886. Maran HaRav Kook appreciated the yeshiva and many of his disciples studied there, including his son the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Yehuda.

In his letter, Rabbeinu encourages people to support the famed yeshiva: "הנני מוצא לי לחוב קדוש להעיר את לבבם הטהור, להחזיק במעוז החזקת תורת א"י בכלל, ותורת ירושלים עיה"ק בפרט…. לעזרת הישיבה הקדושה, הנודעת למשגב ישיבת תורת חיים, שיסדה הגאון האמיתי, צדיק יסו"ע מו"ה יצחק ווינוגראד ז"ל…. היו נא כולכם, מחזקים ומאמצים, את מפעל קדשו…"

At the end of his letter, Rabbeinu alludes to the troubles the yeshiva suffered from by other yeshivas and certain people of the Yishuv: "ואל תחושו לאיזה דברי רפיון אשר יוכלו לבא, לרפות ידי העוסקים במצוה רבה….".
