"לדקדק על חתימת שמי שתהא בכתב ידי ממש" (!!!) – fascinating letter signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld Gaon Av Beit Din and founder of HaEidah haChareidit – Jerusalem, 1924.

In his letter, Rabbeinu warns about a forgery of the Or Chadash Yeshiva, which used a fake stamp of Rabbeinu’s handwritten signature  "כי חתימתי בצורת כתב ידי (שטאמבילע) על פנקסי השליחות לשם ישיבת אור חדש היא מזויפת, וכל מה שמתפרסם כעת בשמי או בחתימתי ביחס לישיבה זו, הוא בלא ידעתי ולמרות רצוני, כי מזה זמן אשר חדלתי לטפל בזה" !!! (since my signature-like stamp (Stambile) on the Pinkasei Shelichut for the Or Chadash Yeshiva is a fake, and all that is published now in my name or my signature regarding this yeshiva is וnbeknownst to me and despite my wishes…)

Maran the Gaon Av Beit Din then gives validity to his signature’s authenticity: "ומכאן מודעה לדקדק על חתימת שמי שתהא בכתב ידי ממש (original underlining) וכל חתימת שמי כתב יד שאינה בכתב ידי ממש רק בחותם… לא ממני יצאה" !!! (From now on, check that my signature is handwritten by me and any signature of my name that is not handwritten but stamped… is not by me).
