Lot 37:
She’erit Hapletah – important collection of letters and documents – from the estate of the Gaon Chassid Rabbi Yisrael Noah Brisk – eith many historical details from the religious life at the British Detention Camps – Cyprus, late 1940s.
1. Certificate given to Rabbi Brisk by the "Chief Rabbinate of the Cyprus Exiles" – fine scribal script and a nice format – signed by Rabbi Avraham Chaim Meirovich and Rabbi Yisrael Greenbaum – with stamps of the Cyprus Chief Rabbinate and the committee of rabbis of the Cyprus exiles – Xylotymbou, Cyprus 1948 – "מאס בבצע מעשקות נוער כפיו מתמוך בשוחד".
2. Inside the Barbed Wires of Cyprus – letter of gratitude by the "Joint Secretariate of the Cyprus Camps – to Rabbi Brisk – thanking him for his devoted work for the Jewish community inside the barbed wires of Cyprus – Cyprus, 1948 – apparently referring to the joint steering committee of the religious and non-religious population.
3. Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Mordechai Yoffe Schlesinger – addressed to Rabbi Sandrai – attesting to Rabbi Brisk’s character and describing his genius and vast knowledge: "הוא היה בשעתו המורה הוראה היחידי כמעט בכל המחנות והתפלאתי על עוצם בקיאתו ורגילתו בהוראה… למרות שהיו שם ממש מחוסרי ספרים…" Jerusalem, 1949.
4. Two original copies written by Rabbi David Aharon Zohar of the Joint Religious Committee of Cyprus – announcemnts that were delivered to Rabbi Brisk and Chacham ben Zion, stating that they have been chosen as members of the rabbis’ committee – Cyprus, 1947.
5. כבודכם מבוקשים בשם 1867 חתימות המעפילים הרצופים – letter of request by 1867 Chareidi exiles, by the joint secretariate, asking that the rabbis’ committee be taken into account "בכל זמן שיופיעו לפניכם בענייני דת…" – original contemporary copying.
6. Lengthy letter by the "special committee for obtaining evidence and supporting religion in the Cyprus exile" – handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yitzchak Deutsch, with fascinating details from the religious life at the camps and the varied conflicts – Cyprus, 1938 "כידוע למע"כ ביקר אותנו שבוע זו הרה"ג רב עוזיאל רב דראשון לציון רצינו למסור לו את כל מגמות לבנו בכל העניינים אבל ילין והלפרין ישבו קרוב לו בסמוך ממש אבל בכל זה בדרך רמז מסרנו לו הכל והכרנו בו שהוא יודע הכל…".
Historical tresure with many details which apparently unknown to those studying the period!!!

Rabbi Yisrael Noah Brisk (passed away in 1970) the son of Rabbi Moshe Shmuel and son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Chaim of Mishkoltz. Was a Dayan of the Beit Din of the Yagel Yaakov in Mishkoltz. After the Holocaust, served as Rav of the Cyprus Camp and was one of the leading matirei Agunot. In Israel, served as Rav of Kiryat Ata.
