Rabbis’ letters.
In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library! Has not been seen in auctions! Extremely rare!
Exceptional!
The beauty of this book lies in it preserving the dignity of all parties and thoughtfully discussing the subject, enabling a peek into the calm world of Romanian Jewry, whose principal concern was the honor and dignity of the Sages.
Bound with several additional books:
1. Polemic: Shut Har Tavor – first edition, Pressburg 1861.
Shut Har Havor, “standing against the Carmel … in which are elucidated the law of the Bima being in the center in the Shas and Poskim and the severity of the actions of those who place it next to the Aron Kodesh…” by the Goan Rabbi Yisrael David Margolis Yofeh of Sered.
This work is a continuation of the earlier work, Mecholat Machanaim, by the same author, in which he writes against the reformers/neologs changing the layout of the synagogue. In this work, he answers the Shut written about his earlier work by Herr Doctor Meisel in the Carmel newspaper.
36 leaves. Printed and bound with a German article by the above author and originally with a separate title page and pagination on the reverse side, in a foreign language. Here, the foreign section begins with page 9 only and is without the foreign title page.
2. HaIsha al pi Torat Yisrael, by Rabbi Yechiel Michl Tukchinsky. An interesting work explaining the Torah’s opinion about the status of women and their attributes, which match their role according to the Torah and their mental unsuitability to public positions. Apparently written in response to feminist comments by the Israeli public.
3. Chrovot Yerushalayim, describing some of the troubles Jerusalem had experienced. Second edition (after Venice 1627) with additions, a foreword, comments and indices by Eliezer Rivlin – Jerusalem, 1928. The title page and foreword are missing here and were partly completed by hand.
Bound together. In both books, the title pages are with restorations/taping. Varied blemishes. Some moth damage/perforations to the external leaves. Good overall condition. The two last books were not thoroughly studied for missing leaves.
