– Shetar Eirusin of the bridegroom Rabbi Yaakov Shimshon Margolis, the above Rabbi Elazar Moshe’s son – "העומד מצד עצמו"!!! (representing himself) – with the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Shimshon Heiman, the son-in-law of Rabbi Mendele Deyzher – signed by Rabbi Aharon Zelig ben Menachem and Rabbi Shmuel Moshe ben Rabbi Menachem Elimelech – Deyzh, ca. 1917.

This Shetar has a special story: it was written in the midst of World War I and the bridegroom represented himself since he was forced to escape his father’s house in Safed for fear of being recruited into the Turkish army.  Rabbi Yaakov Shimshon reached Deyzh, where the Tzaddik Rabbi Shimshon Heiman took him as his daughter’s bridegroom. The document indicates it was writtten in times of trouble; it is much shorter than other similar documents and does not include the commitments of the bridegroom’s father…
