The author, Rabbi Aryeh Leib (Aryeh Yehuda Leib) of Lantzhut (1757/8-1824/6) was the son of Rabbi Baruch, a leading disciple of the Chozeh of Lublin and the Maggid of Kozhnitz. The rav of Lantzhut since 1777, when he was only 20 years old. In 1819 he succeeded Rabbi Chaim of Chernowitz (the Be’er Mayim Chayim) as Rav of Kishinev, where he served until he passed away. Author of Chomat Ariel, Divrei Ester, Gevurot Aryeh, and Arba’a Charashim.
