Lot 165:
Letter that was written in the midst of Worl War I by rabbi Binyamin Gertner Av Beit Din of Yanov, Galicia to Rabbi Chaim Brody Av Beit Din of Prague – Barvo, ca, 1915.
In his letter, Rabbi Gertner asks the Rav of Prague to send them Matzahs that were made according to the Chumrot that were customary before the war (kneaded by hand and not machine-made Matzah), before they were exiled from Galicia to Bohemia. It is common knowledge that Chassidim in general, and the disciples of Maran the Divrei Chaim of Sanz in particular, took care not to eat on Passover machine-made Matzah. It is touching to see evidence from those difficult times that Yirei Hashem took care not to give up on the Chumrot of Passover.
