Buyer's premium:

Sefer Galya Masechet, section I. Shut by the Gaon Rabbi David Ben Moshe, the Rav of Novhardok for over forty years. First edition – Vilna, 1844. Originally, [3], 93, 4-13. In this copy, one of the first leaves is missing – not with the text of the work.

Amal HaTorah!

The entire copy indicates in was studied diligently – the binding is worn, the leaves are stained and creased, there is taping to the title page and more, (moth perforations and damage, mainly to the lower margins. Fair overall condition). The margins of the sheets are with ancient Ashkenazic glosses, slightly trimmed at their edges. On the front flyleaf, an old pen notation: "שייך להרב באיוויע"ת" [see below]. On the top of the title page, an additional notation: "קניתי בעצמי ליב אלי מרדכי". Foreign stamp on the title page with the name B. Kletzkin.

Apparently, these important glosses on the sides of this book were written close to the time of printing by the Rav of Iwje (Grodno district, Lithuania, today Belarus), the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Grodzinski or his son the Gaon Rabbi David Shlomo Grodzinski.

The Gaon Rabbi David Shlomo Grodzinzki (1821-1904), the son of Rabbi Moshe Aryeh, who was a member of a family of rabbis of the town for a hundred successive years. A disciple of the founder of the Mussar Movement Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. Succeeded his father as Rav of Iwje. His sons and sons-in-law held pedigreed rabbinic positions, the most famed of them being the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski – one of the leaders of Lithuanian Jewry alongside Rabbeinu th eChafetz Chaim and president of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah.
