Lot 103:
Sefer Chukei Chayim, Shut by Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gagin (see Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography). The first Shut book that was printed in Eretz Yisrael and one of the first books that were printed in Jerusalem, by the famed printer Rabbi Yisrael Bak, whose mark appears on the title page. First edition, Jerusalem, 1842. [2], 170 leaves (original mispagination, has not been studied leaf-by-leaf). 30.5 cm. Shoshana Halevi 9. Old binding, partly detached. Moth burrows throughout, affecting the text. Stains and some other blemishes. Fair-good overall condition.
On the title page, a handwritten notation with a dedication to the Gvir Binyamin Mutzari by the author. A signature: "הצעיר בכור מצליח טאקו[ני]".
Interesting! The foreword recalls, among others, a dispute between the author and the officials of the Kollel about removing a window of the Beit El Yeshiva in his yard to make the place fit for the Akeidat Yitzchak Yeshiva. Siman 36 introduces the rabbis’ responses on the matter.
