Lot 40:
Collection containing most of the issues of Yavneh – a Journal of Judaism and Literature, eight booklets containing 13 issues. Published in Lviv/Lemberg during the years 1929-1931.
A piece of history!
The issues contain quality Jewish literature by the best contemporary rabbis and writers including Rabbi S.Z. Shapira, the Rabbi Dr. Natan Birenbaum, Rabbi Tuvia Horowitz, the Rabbi Dr. Azriel Karlibach, Rabbi meir Shapira of Lublin and many more.
In the issue of Tamuz-Av 1930 there is a comprehensive review of a formative event in Jewish history: "The opening celebration of Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin". The review includes the opening lecture of the Admorim of Chortekov and Ger (the Imrei Emet) alongside pictures and an article titled Hitromemut Hanefesh by Rabbi Tuvia Horowitz, reviewing the celebration from a personal perspective.
In addition, issue 15 contains a beautiful and inspiring article by Leib Feingold titled Poetry and Man as well as artciles on psychology, education and history.
Printed covers, some on color paper. Minor stains. Apparently, complete copies (have not been studied on a page-by-page basis). Tears to one of them. Good overall condition.

Enclosed with issue 1 is a handwritten letter on the official stationery of the editorial staff of Yavneh, Lviv, addressed to Rabbi Moshe Aharon Perlman of Tiberius, apologizing for his not receiving one of the issues and asking him to tell people about the existence of the journal in synagogues and Batei Midrash. Signed by S.Z. Shapira and with the stamp of the editorial staff of Yavneh.
