Lot 342:
Rosh Milin, original unique work – "Impressions of thought on Midrash Haotiyot, Hatagin, Hanekudot and the Te’amim" by Chief Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook. In his modesty, he describes himself on the title page as follows: "עבד לעם קדוש על אדמת הקודש…מתגורר כעת בגולה תוך אמוני עם סגולה…". He authored the work when he was Rav of London.
First edition – London, 1917. [2], 140, [2] pp. In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library. Gershom Scholem wrote a comment on his copy: על ספר זה אמר המחבר אל ידידי שאול ליברמן, זמן מועט לפני מותו, כאשר נתן לו טופס במתנה, כי עתה אינו מבין אף מלה ממה שכתב בו, אף-על-פי שידע כוונת הדברים כאשר כתב אותם. כך שמעתי מפיו בתשכ"ו.
(About this book, the author told my friend Shaul Lieberman shortly before his passing, when he gave him a copy as a gift, that now he does not understand a word of what he had written although he knew their meaning when he wrote them. So I heard from him in 1966).
At its end, a fine poem by the author, ending with the words: "והמעינות יתגברו ותרבה הדעת, לישועתך קויתי ד’". Pocket format: 9X12 cm. Printed cover. Some tears to cover. Good overall condition.
Segulah!
The book is considered a Segulah (see Hebrew catalog text for some quotes).
