Rare letter, handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Halevi Soloveitchik, the grandson of Maran the Beis Halevi of Brisk. Addressed to the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, the Rosh Yeshiva of Hebron – Johannesburg, 1939.

In his short letter, Rabbeinu informs the Rosh Yeshiva that he had sent him money for the yeshiva and its sages. Rabbeinu, who was the flesh and blood of the Liyhuanian Yeshiva world and a leading disciple of his uncle, Maran Rabbi Chaim of Brsik, ends his letter with a blessing to the Torah learners of  farway Johannesburg: "וברכה וכ"ט לרבנן ותלמידיהון כחפץ לבב ידידם י, סולאווייצ’יק"

Rabbi Yisrael Halevi Soloveitchik (passed away in 1951) was the son of Rabbi Avraham Baruch Soloveitchik, eldest son of Rabbi Yosef Dov, the Beis HaLevi. He succeeded his father as Rav of Smolensk and served as a Dayan of the Beit Din in Johannesburg. He studied under his great uncle Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik and wrote down his lessons, which were printed later from his manuscript in the Meginzei HaGrach. He passed away during a visit to New York and is buried there.
