יתן ה’ ונזכה כולנו לשמוע כי כבוד מרן שב לאיתנו (may G-d will and we all merit hearing the Rav is well again) – Touching letter by the Gaon Rabbi Elchanan Zvi Gutterman, Av Beit Din of Scranton, Pennsylvania to his leading Rav Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein, the Rosh Yeshiva of Hebron – Scranton, 1933.

The letter was sent to the Rosh Yeshiva at the end of his life, when he was sick and suffering from pains that prevented him from delivering the lessons he used to deliver in the yeshiva for dozens of years. Rabbi Gutterman, who his student in Slabodkam expresses his sorrow for the situations and blesses Rabbeinu that he will merit recovering quickly and returning to deliver lessons: "ברכת הודאה לרופא חולי עמו ישראל ששלח רפואה למכאובי אדמו"ר שליט"א, יתן ד’ ונזכה כולנו לשמוע כי כבוד מרן שב לאיתנו ומרביץ תורה לאלפי תלמידיו המשתוקקים ושותים בצמא את דברי תורתו ואור חכמתו".

The Gaon Rabbi Elchanan Zvi Gutterman (1884-1966) was born in Lithuania and studied at the Knesset Yisrael Yeshiva of Slabodka, with the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein, whom he considered his leading Rav. During Wolrd War I, he immigrated to the USA, where he served first as Rav of Atlanta and then of Scranton, Pennsylvania, a position he held for more than fifty years.
