Lot 315:
Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Halevi Goldman, Rav of the Jewish town of Moises Ville, Argentine and one of the greatest rabbis of South America in the 1930s – Moises Ville, 1931.
Rabbi Aharon Halevi Goldma’s life is closely related to the unbelievable story of the Jewish town of Moises Ville, Argentina. The town was built in 1889 by Jews who had escaped anti-Semitic Russia on a steamboat and reached the shores of Argentina; Rabbi Goldman was one of them. Rabbeinu was also the one who gave the town its name "Kiryat Moshe" or Moises Ville. The letterhead of this letter is "אהרן הלוי גאלדמאן מו"צ חופ"ק קרית משה".
A famed affair involving Rabbeinu was the ban on conversions in Argentina. Following the wave of immigrants who reached Argentina in the early 20th century, there were many mixed marriages. Many non-Jews who wanted to marry Jews agreed to outwardly convert. Rabbeinu who saw the magnitude of this, joined the Sephardic rav Rabbi Shaul David Sethon and together they banned conversion in Argentina.
This letter was sent by Rabbi Goldman to the Torat Eretz Yisrael Yeshiva in Safed, discussing donations and Jewish Argentine philanthropists.

Following pogroms in Ukraine and Russia, he immigrated with many other Jews to Argentina, where he was one of the founders of Moises Ville. Some of his responses were compiled in Sefer Divrei Aharon.
