Letter handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz, the Rav of the Sovalk Community of New York, addressed to the Vaad Haklali Knesset Yisrael, with references to Rabbi Shmuel Salant and Rabbeinu the Aderet – New York, 1904. 

The letter is addressed to the members of the Vaad Haklali "headed by Maran Rabbi Shmuel Salant Shlita (Maran rabbi Shmuel Salant, the Rav of Jerusalem) and Maran the Aderet Shlita (Maran Rabbi Elyahu David Rabinovich Teomim). In his letter, Rabbeinu asks to give a certain man money from the funds he used to regularly send to the poor of Eretz Yisrael: נא לשלם לר’ מאיר היימאן סופר סת"ם, סך מאה פראנק על חשבוני, ואי"ה בחשבוני הבא אבאר לפניכם בחשבון הנכנס ויוצא על ידי".

 It was a known practice of the Kollelim of Jerusalem to receive designated funds for specific people. Usually, the Kollelim responded willingly.

The Gaon Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz (1865-1926) an American Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of a Lithuanian descent. When he was approx. ten, his fa, ily immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, where he studied at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva and gave lessons on Halacha and Aggadah. In 1892, he moved to the USA. Was one of the founders of the Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchonon Yeshiva in New York and one of the founders of the union of rabbis of the USA and Canada. Author of Dat Yisrael, Ketav Hadat and Sefer Ketubah.
