Lot 218:
Two volumes – Vayikra and Bamidbar, of an edition of Chamisha Chumshei Torah, with Rashi’s commentary, Baal Haturim, Shem Ephraim, Totzot Chaim and the Maharsha’s commentary. [Lemberg, 1855]. On the title page: in Chernovich, 1851].
In this rare edition, the Maharsha’s novellae was printed for the first time on the leaves. This novellae was published in itself in Henau in 1717 and was then republished several times, yet not in the Chumash. The Boibliography of the Hebrew Book saw only Sectioin I (not here). Section I is not in the National L:ibrary.
1. Vayikra: [1], 82 leaves. 25.5 cm. Title page with blue lettering! On verso of the title page, table of the Moladot for 1855-1875. Ancient signatyres on the front guard leaf.
Condition varies: some leaves in good condition and some in fair. Detached title page. Some moth perforations to the inside margins of the last leaves. Som epartly detahced leaves with tears. Wear and small tears to the edges of some leaves. Ancient leather binding with an elegant embossment, blemished, dismantled and partly detahced.
2. Bamidbar: [94] leaves. Missing title page. 25 cm.
Good condition. Several of the first leaves in fair-good condiiton with minor blemishes and taping. Ancient binding, blemished and detached.
