Important polemic letter signed by Rabbi Avraham Zvi Halevi Rosh Av Beit Din of the Ashkenazic Community of Tiberius sent to Dr. Eliezer Halevi – Sir Montefiore’s mythological secretary. Tiberius, 1888. In his letter, Rabbi Avraham Zvi protests against the fact that the charity money of Montefiore’s estate was sent to Rabbi Motel Ashkenazi and not to him and the Sephardic Rosh Av Beit Din. Rabbi Avraham Zvi writes that it makes no sense to reject an old man such as himself and prefer a young man to him: "לדחות ישיש כמוני זה חמשה ושלשים שנה רב ומורה הוראה לעדת אשכנזים הי"ו פעיה"ק טברי’ ת"ו, בשביל איש המוני צעיר לימים כזה. וכל הקהל תמהו איך המוני כזה יהתל באנשים חכמים גדולים דכוותיהו, שע"י תחבולות איש המוני ישתנה סדרי בראשית, להחליף שמי באיש המוני. מה ראו לבזותי חנם…".
