Lot 168:
Fine lengthy letter to Sir Moses Montefiore by the leaders of the Sephardic and Ashkenazic communities of Tiberius. Tiberius, [1871]. At the beginning of their letter, the rabbis confirm they received the charity money and state that their situation is still difficult due to the draught. Then the letter deal with redeeming the synagogue of the holy Shelah which was purchased by gentiles.
Th eletter is signed by the Chacham Bashi Rabbi Chaim Shmuel Hacohen (signature-like stamp), Rabbi Shimin Abadi, Rabbi Avraham Yosef Halevi, Rabbi Mordechai Motel Ashkenazi.
[1] double leaf. 27 cm. Bluish paper. Fine scribal script. Rabbis’ sigatures and stamps. Good condition. Small tear to the upper corner not affecting the text. Aging stains.
