Sefer Avodat Hashem, Drushim on the Torah, by the Shadar Rabbi Shneur Zalman Medelovich, the grandson of the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Charif, author of the Kol Aryeh. On the title page, he wrote that he published the book for the ascent of the soul of Rabbi Yosef Chai "בן אהובי כאבי השר הגדול… סיר עבדאלה דוד ששון הי"ו".  Printed in Jerusalem, 1884. Originally, [6], 41, [1] leaves. In this copy, the last leaf is missing. In the National Library, the book appears in the Rare Book Collection. (Shoshana Halevi 464). 


At the beginning of the book, approbations by Rabbi Raphael Meir Panagil, Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Leib Diskin, Rabbi Eliyahu Mani and more. After them, the author’s introduction referring to his visit to the Palace of Queen Victoria in 1864 and the prayer he wrote for her success in the war in Bombay in 1858 and her letters of gratitude. He also refers to varied philanthropists such as Mrs. Farcha Sassoon, Sir Shimon Wolf – the Baron de Rothschild and more from all around the world. 

There is also
an illustration of the Chabad synagogue of Sir Abdalla Meir of Bombay. At the end of the introduction, a poem by the author with the acrostic "שניאור זלמן". Two tears to the edges of the title page. Slightly fragile paper. New binding. Good overall condition.
