On verso of the binding, an embossment:  "אלימלך שפירא ירושלים" – referring to the author’s grandson the Admor Rabbi Elimelech Shapira, the son of the Admor Hachalutz, Rabbi Yeshaya Shapira, one of the founders of HaMizrachi in Poland and HaPoel HaMizrachi in Eretz Yisrael, who was the youngest son of his great grandfather of Grodzhisk. Rabbeinu, the owner of this copy, was known as the Admor of Grodzhisk-Piaseczno, commemorating his great uncle the Admor Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira of Piaseczno.

On the title page, pencil notations handwritten by him, adding to the printed pedigree of his grandfather. Inside the copy, many comments handwritten by him (in pen and pencil) on the margins of the sheets. These comments are a summary of each passage of the book, indicating his knowledge of the material and his summarizing abilities and matching what we know of him – that he wanted to re-edit and re-print his grandfather’s book yet did not manage to do so.

The author, the Admor Rabbi Elimelech Shapira of Grodzhisk (1824-1892) was the son of the Admor Rabbi Chaim Meir Yehiel of Mogielnica. He was one of the greatest Admorim of Poland in the years before the World Wars and had great yichus: he was the grandson of the Admorim the Maggid of Kozhnitz and Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, the Yehudi HaKadosh of Peshischa, the Saba of Ruzhin, the Ahavas Shalom of Kosov, and other Tzaddikim. The Tzaddikim of Poland deferred to his opinions in gatherings he held for public matters of the Jewish community and followed him. He wrote the Imrei Elimelech, and Divrei Elimelech on the Torah and Moadim.
