Lot 207:
Lengthy rabbinic appointment document that was given to the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich Av Beit Din of Shamloy, confirming his position of Rosh Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit of Jerusalem! – Jerusalem, 1935.
In 1935, the holy Rav Av Beit Din of Shamloy visited Eretz Yisrael. During his visit, he was given this document. An unknown detail in the biography of Rabbeinu and HaEidah HaChareidit!
The members of the community begin their letter with blessings for Rabbeinu’s visit to Eretz Yisrael: את מכתבם פותחים חברי העדה בברכות לרגל ביקורו של רבינו בארץ ישראל "העדה החרדית.. מתכבדת להביע לו את ברכתה העמוקה לעליתו לאה"ק תוב"א לראות בטוב ירושלים ולרצות את אבני נזר הקודש…".
Later, they inform Rabbeinu about their decision to title him Rosh Av Beit Din of the community: "לענד את כת"ר שליט"א עטרה לראשה ולשום על שכמו את עטרת תפארת משרת ראש בית דין לה"בד"צ לכל מקהלות האשכנזים".
The document proceeds with procedural matters and describes the areas of responsibility. At the end of the document, the rabbis write that they hope the Gaon Av Beit Din of Shamloy obliges and limit their proposal to a certain time.

Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich (1863-1944) Av Beit Din of Shamloy and author of Shut Lechem Shlomo. A Gaon, Chassid and Kabbalist, one of the leading rabbis of Hungary, a leading Chassid of the Admor author of the Kedushat Yom Tov of Siget and an admirer of his son the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, who, like him, sharply objected to Zionism and Agudat Yisrael. Yet, he was also known for his love of Eretz Yisrael and his community sent the largest donations to Eretz Yisrael. During the Holocaust, he could escape to Romania yet refused to do so, saying he now had a chance to observe the Mitzvah of Kiddush Hashem. He perished in Auschwitz with most of his family.
