Letter with interesting superlatives handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Ernfeld Av Beit Din of Mattersdorf, addressed to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld – Mattersdorf, 1929.
It is interesting to read the superlative Rabbeinu used to begin his letter with: "לכבוד ידיד ה’ וידיד נפש כל חי.. הרב הגדול הישיש זקן ונשוא פנים עומד לנס עמו כמו"ה יוסף חיים זוננפלד האב"ד ור"מ בק"ק ירושלים יע"א..".
The content of the letter: recommendation for a member of the Mattersdorf community who immigrated to Eretz Yisrael with his family: "נא ונא לקרבו ולעמוד לימינו, בכל האפשר".

The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Ernfeld Av Beit Din of Mattersdorf (1891-1980) a descendant of the Chatam Sofer. Was considered one of the leading rabbis of Austria and was the president of the Union of the Seven Communities. With the annexation of Austria to Nazi Germany, Rabbeinu escaped to the USA, where he established the Chatan Sofer Yeshiva in memory of his grandfather, the son-in-law of the Chatam Sofer. In Israel, he established the Kiryat Mattersdorf in memory of the Austrian community, He passed away on Shavu’ot and was buried near the gravesite of the holy Admor of Belz.
