שלא יהינו להשתתף חלילה בחינגא שלהם (They should not even think of taking part, G-d forbid, in their festival) – draft of an extremely sharp letter against the Independence Day of 1972, with the handwritten signatures of the Geonim of the Badatz, the Minchat Yitzchak, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund, Rabbi Yisrael Moshe Dushinsky and Rabbi Eliyahu Zlotnik.

In the letter, the rabbis write: "כידוע שיום ה’ אייר אשר השלטון בדו מלבם לחג עצמאותם מלווה בהוללות ודברים שאינם מן היישוב בריקודים ופריצות נוראה ע"י תערובות אנשים ונשים רח"ל…" (It is common knowledge that the 5th of Iyar which the authorities made up as their Independence Day is accompanied by wild behavior… dances and terrible promiscuity by mixture of men and women…). Later, the rabbis sharply warn: "שחלילה לא ישנו בנוסח התפילות… שלא יהינו שום איש ואשה בחור ובתולה קטן וגדול להשתתף חלילה בחינגא שלהם…" (No one, man, woman and children should not even think of taking part, G-d forbid, in their festival).

The letter is signed by the Geonim of the Badatz:

– Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Weiss – Gaon Av Beit Din and author of Shut Minchat Yitzchak.

– Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund – the future Gaon Av Beit Din

– Rabbi Yisrael Moshe Dushinsky – the future Gaon Av Beit Din and the Admor of Dushinsky

– Rabbi Eliyahu Zlotnik – Dayan, the Rosh Yeshiva of Heichal haTorah and author of Sefer Pri Eliyahu and Imrei Noam.
