The kabbalist Rabbi Elisha Goliko (approx. 1520-1578) was born in Italy and immigrated in 1540 approx to Israel, together with gedolei hador who came to Tzfat. He met the Maran Beit Yosef while there and became his student (muvhak), and even received smicha from him. He opened a yeshiva in Tzfat and among his greatest students was Rabbi Shmuel de Uzida, author of the Midrash Shmuel on Pirkei Avot. Rabbi Chaim Bittel mentions hmi in Sefer HaChezyonot. He wrote a number of books which have been lost over the years. Only his commentary on the Five Megillot has survived, published by his students after his death.
