Lot 151:
Set of four of the Ezrat Hasofer Chamisha Chumshei Torah, Tikkun Sofrim for a scribe with Vavei HaAmudim – an early custom by which every column of the Sefer Torah begins with the letter Vav (ו). By Rabbi Yehuda Pisa. In that year, two editions were published; this one is the vowelized one.
Proops Press – Amsterdam. Except for the section of Vayikra, each Chumash has three title page: the first, an extremely rare half-title that does not appear in the copies of the National Library and is not mentioned in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book, with a fine copper-engraving. The second is also copper-engraved with the year 1769. The date of the third is 1767 which is apparently, the year in which the printing of the book began. In the Haftarot: Sephardic and Ashkenazic custom. An additional title page with the years 1768. In the section of the Mikra, the pagination continues along all the volumes, including the Haftarot of Devarim. In the National Library, the volumes appear in the Rare Book Collection.

[III] Vayikra. [122]-163, [2], 24 leaves. As stated, one title page is missing as well as the rare half-title.
[V] Devarim. [1], [222]-290, [8] leaves including Calendario – Hebrew and Spanish calendars – Amsterdam, 1769. Haftarat Shabbat Eicha with a Spanish translation in Latin characters.
Approbations by the rabbis of Amsterdam. A lengthy foreword by the editor Rabbi Yehuda Pisa.
Fine copy with wide margins, quality paper. The paper of Shirat Hayam and Shirat Ha’azinu and Luach HaIbur is larger than the rest. In Shirat Hayam it is meticulously folded.
Original leather bindings. Varied blemishes. Detached/loose bindings. Some detached leaves. Stains. Good overall condition.
