Sefer Ahavat David by the Chida – Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulkai, Drushim for Sabbath, Mussar and Mamarei Chazal. With Drushim for Shabbat Zachor, Shabbat Hagadol, Shabbat Kalah, Shabbat Teshuva, which were delivered during the years 1792-1799 in Livorno. At its end, Safah Achat – commentary on the Haggadah and Avotot Ahava – omissions and corrections of Kuntres Ahavat David. First edition in the author’s lifetime. Livorno, 1799. [1], 96 leaves. 29.5 cm. The last leaf of the indices is missing. Moth damage and fungus throughout the book. Poor overall condition. Old worn binding. 

On the title page, 2 handwritten signatures of the holy Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller and stamps of his successors as Rav of Safed, Rabbi Raphael Zilberman and his grandson and successor Rabbi Avraham Leib Zilberman. A single gloss on the leaves of the book. On the title page, a notation handwritten apparently by Rabbi Raphael Zilberman: "קניתי מיורשי ….? הרב הגאון מוהר"ש ז"ל".

The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller (1803-1884) was the Rabbi of Safed and a leader of the Ashkenazic community there for more than 40 years. He was the great-grandson of Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Heller, author of the Tosfot Yom Tov, and his grandfather Rabbi Avraham Peretz was a follower of the Chozeh of Lublin, Safed, becoming close to the Admor Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avritch (the Bat Ayin), whom he succeeded as Rav after his passing. He was considered a proficient healer using the flora of the country. He succeeded to rehabilitate Safed after its destruction by an earthquake. His grandson was the Admor of Toldot Aharon Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kahan.

Rabbi Raphael Zilberman (1839-1918) the son and successor of the Chief Rabbi of the Ashkenazic community of Safed, Rabbi Mordechai Zilberman. Was famed for his wisdom and Torah greatness, even the Turks acknowledged his wisdom, titling him Chacham Pahsha. Continued his father’s tradition of lighting the bonfire on the gravesite of Rashbi on Lag BaOmer as the representative of the Boyan Chassidim. 

Rabbi Avraham Yehuda Leib Zilberman (1889-1948) the Chief Rabbi of Safed for thirty years. The grandson of Rabbi Raphael Zilberman who served as the Chief Rabbi of the Ashkenazic community of Safed. Rabbi Zilberman continued the traditions of the rabbis of the Zilberman family and served as a Shali’ach of the Admorim of Boyan for lighting the bonfire on the roof of Rashbi’s gravesite on Lag BaOmer.
