Receipt of the Va’ad Haklali Knesset Yisrael, with the early handwritten signature of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv – Jerusalem, 1937.
On the receipt, an early signature of Rabbeinu "יוסף שלום עליאשאוו", before he began using a different spelling of his family name (אלישיב). Rabbeinu’s original family name was Levinson. When his father, Rabbi Avraham Levinson, Av Beit Din of Homel, immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, he changed his family name to עליאשאוו, like that of his in-law, author of the Leshem. Over the years, Rabbeinu replaced the old spelling with the modern Hebrew one. This, as stated, is an early signature of his: "יוסף שלום עליאשאוו".
