Sefer Chidushei HaRan, by Rabbi Nissim Girondi, one of the Rishonim, on tractate Avodah Zara. First Edition from a manuscript – Jerusalem 1888. 26 leaves. Shoshana Halevi no. 618. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod no. 59. In the National Library, a single copy appears in the Rare Book Collection.

Printed with the Davak Shlomo comments by the publisher Rabbi Shlomo Aharon Wertheimer. Approbations by the rabbis of Jerusalem: Rabbi Shmuel Salant and the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Raphael Meir Panigel. Soft binding. Some moth perforations. Good overall condiiton.

One the title page, a signature: "עקיבו יוסף" handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger (1838-1922) the son of Rabbi Yechiel, a disicple of the Chatam Sofer. One of the first activists for the building of Eretz Yisrael by encouraging the purchase of lands for settlement and agriculture. A disicple of the Ketav Sofer, the Maharam Schick and the Machaneh Chaim. Son-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyia and more. Like his father-in-law, he too strongly objected to modern orthodoxy. His famed work, Kev HaIvri, is on this subject.

Several stamps: "שלמה זלמן שלעזינגער" – apparently, Rabbi Akiva Yosef’s grandson who passed away during a plague in Jerusalem in 1917.
