Zichron Yehuda, "Shut by Rabbeinu Yehuda ben haRosh…" published by rabbi Yehuda ben Alexander Rosenberg and edited by Rabbi David Castle, who wrote a foreword with a short biography of the author – first edition, Berlin 1846. [5], 61 leaves. Approbations by the rabbis of Berlin, Frankfurt and Worms.
Bound with תשו’ מר"מ יפה section I, by Rabbi Mordechai Michael ben rabbi Menachem Mendel Yaffe of Hamburg – first edition, Hamburg 1852. [4], 174, [4] pp.
Worn binding with a leather spine. Minor stains. Large bright stains on the title page of Zichron Yehuda – see picture. Open tears to the edges, not affecting the text. Good overall condition.
On the title page, the official stamp of the Gaon the Malbim, from when he was Rav in Bucharest, Romania. Appearing on the two flyleaves are handwritten calculations – have not been studied.
Rabbi Meir Leibush ben Yechiel Michl Weizer (the Malbim, 1809-1880) was a Gaon born in Vohlin, one of the last commentators on the Bible and Poskim. He worked in the Russian Empire, Prussia, and Romania. He is most known for his Bible commentary, which shows his wide-ranging scholarship—in his commentaries can be found references to philosophers of the past like Kant, Philo, and more.
He wrote many books on a variety of subjects, including:
