Nachalat Avot, commentary on tractate Avot tby Rabbeinu Don Yitzchak Abravanel, first, post-incunabula, edition printed in his lifetime – the press of David and Shmuel ben Nachmias, Yitzchak Kaspota Kushtanti, Kushta, 1506. [116] leaves. An edition that was widely distributed and reprinted many times over the year. Originally ptinted with two additional works: Rosh Amanah on the principles of religion and Zevach Pesach on the Passover Haggadah.

Printed without a title page. Instead of it, appearing on the second page is a fine poem praising the book by the author’s son, Rabbi Yehuda Abravanel. Surrounded by an illustrated border of varied plants and animals. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod no. 38. In the National Library, the book appears in the Rare Book Collection.

On the colophon, Rabbeinu wrote: והייתה השלמת הפי’ הזה בעיר מאנפולי אשר במחוז הפלויא ממלכו’ נאפוליש אשר באנו להתגורר שם מפני זלעפות הגרוש אשר נגזר על גלות ירושלם אשר בספרד… שנת רנו…".  Without the original colophon that appeared at the end of the 3 books.

Impressive leather binding with 2 moth perforations. Healthy paper, partly with wide margins. Professional restorations to some leaves. Stains. Good condition.
