Fine Wimpel, as the ancient custom of Ashkenaz to absorb the blood of the Milah with white cloth and then, when the child is three years old, to give it to a synagogue to wrap the Sefer Torah with it. The cloth is decorated with needlework or illustration and the child’s name. Some say that the beautiful custom is based on the Tosfot on the Talmud.

Width: 18.5 cm. Length: 328 cm.  On it, the inscription: "מאיר חיים בר אליעזר נולד במז"ט יום ש"ק י"ד סיון תרמ"א… יגדלהו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים א"ס [אמן סלה]" and illustrations of a Sefer Torah and Chupah. Good condition.

Most Wimpels were destroyed in Kristallnacht or during the Holocaust and the few that remained are exhibited in museums in Israel and abroad.
