Lot 196:
Interesting letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yosef Naftali Stern the Rosh Yeshiva of Pressburg and printer of the Chatam Sofer’s writings – Jerusalem, 1952.
The letter was sent to Rabbi Avraham Moshe Babad Av Beit Din of Gura Humora. In the letter, he discusses the Chatam Sofer’s words in the Shut. He refers to Rabbi Akiva Sofer, Av Beit Din of Pressburg: "היה המדובר גם פה אצל הרב מפ"ב שליט"א, והראתי לו הדרכי תשובה במקומו בהלכות מליחה… ימחול לעיין שם וימצא, כי אין הדרכי תשובה תח"י".
At the beginning of his letter, Rabbi Stern apologizes for his delayed response, due to his being sick: "נחלתי אחר ימי החג… ודיזענטריע, שתי שבועות שמרתי חדר המטות בפקודת הרופא, ב"ה הוטב לי, גלל כן לא אשרתי מכתבו הנעים עד היום…".

The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Naftali Stern (1888-1971) Rosh Yeshiva of Pressburg and a member of Mo’etzet Gedolei HaTorah. The son-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Alexandri Schreiber-Sofer of Seret, the son of Maran Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Krakow. After his marriage lived in Seret. Was close to the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Hager the author of the Ahavat Yisrael and to his son the author of the Makor Baruch, who was then the Rav of Seret. He inherited from his in-law the treasure of the Chatam Sofer’s writings and from them, he published the Chatam Sofer’s books and was considered an expert on them.
