Sha’agat Aryeh, "the format and fonts as were previously in Slavuta". The press of David Saadya Yeshaya Waks, Josefow, 1855. Printed after the Slavuta 1832 edition, with the approbations that were printed there. The proofreader’s and editor’s foreword was omitted. The title page is missing. [1], 26, 26-30, [1], 33-57 [i.e. 77] leaves. Mispagination. No binding. Missing title page. Moth perforations and stains. Fair-good overall condition.
On leaf 48a, a lengthy gloss handwritten by Rabbi Avraham Aryeh Leib Rosen, ending with the words: "ובשו"ת איתן ארי’ ח"ג כתבתי בזה תשובה להרה"ג מסיווען" (in Shut Eitan Aryeh section III I have written a response to the Gaon Rav of Siven).
Avraham Aryeh Leib Rosen (1870-1952), one of the leading Rabbisof Romania, son of Rabbi Zeida Yaglinzer (a follower of Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov). He served in the rabbinate of Bohosh, Moyshat, and Topolchan during the period prior to the Holocaust. Known as the Sha’agat Aryeh, after his book by that name which contained a eulogy for Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov, Husiatyn 1905. Shut Eitan Aryeh published by Mossad Rav Kook, Jerusalem 1976. Father of Rabbi Moshe David Rosen, the Rav HaKollel, the Rav of Romania during Ceausescu.
