Lot 134:
An important, original booklet, Zionist history and Jewish-Arab relations before the establishment of the state of Israel. "Bid for a Jewish Settlement in Trans-Jordan" initiated and edited by Aryeh Glinsky – Tel Aviv, 1938.
At first sight, the booklet looks like a strange episode typical of the period, a suggestion to settle Jews in the Trans-Jordan region. However, a study of the booklet reveals that its author, Aryeh Glinsky, was a very practical person. Mr. Glisnky built a relationship with tribal leaders in Jordan, inviting them to visit Israel and hosting them in his hotel in Tel Aviv. Mr. Glinsky even managed to get them to sign a minutes for the sale of land for a Jewish settlement in the area.
Like many other entrepreneurs, Mr. Glinsky also had deep concerns about the Jews being forced to work in areas other than agriculture: "כיום הזה מרחפת עלינו סכנת חלוקה מצומצמת אשר תכריח אותנו שוב להתרחק מעבודת האדמה ולעסוק בתעשייה, במלאכה ובכל מקצוע כלכלה אחר מלבד עבודת האדמה, אשר היא בלבד עלולה להבריא את גופנו ורוחנו שנתדלדלו במשך אלפי שנות גלות".
