Rabbi Shimon Lavi was exiled from Spain and was one of the important kabbalists of his generation, author of Sefer Ketem Paz (a commentary on the Zohar) as well as a number of famed Piyyutim including Bar Yochai which features an acrostic with the author’s name and is read throughout the Jewish world on Lag B’Omer and in many communities each and every Shabbos.
