Lot 205:
Sefer Siftei Yeshenim, a unique book that was considered a novelty at the time, containing a Bibliographic list of Hebrew books from the Jewish bookcase. By Rabbi Shabtai Meshorer Bass, the author of the famed book Siftei Chachamim on Rashi’s commentary on the Torah.
Actually, this book is the first Hebrew bibliographic book. This is the second edition of the book (the first was printed in Amsterdam in 1680); yet here, for the first time, a second section was added by Rabbi Uri Zvi Rubenstein containing books that were published after the printing of the first edition in 1680, some of them Chassidic and Kabbalistic books: Or Hachaim Shklov (Rabbi Chaim ben Atar of Safed writes of it?), Or Hameir Koretz, Noam Elimelech Koretz!!! Toldot Yaakov Yosef Koretz, Tanya Slavuta, Raza Meheimana, Kedushat Levi and more. This, this edition becomes even more important than the first.
Printed in Zholkva, 1806. [3]-20 leaves, 16 pp. 17-26 leaves, 37-92 pp. 92 [i.e. 93]-106 leaves, 3 leaves, 4-23 columns, 24-39 pp. [2], 107-108 leaves. Leaf 92 is bound out of order. In the National Library, the book appears in the Rare Book Collection. A separate title page for the second section. Stefansky Chassidut 591.
A lengthy, fascinating introduction by the author. At its beginning, he writes in the name of the holy Shelah that there is merit to just saying the names of the holy books, even without studying them. In an additional introduction, he praises the order of learning of the Sephardic communities of Amsterdam, the children learning first the Mikrah followed by the Mishnah and only then the Talmud and its commentators.
Stable binding. Parchment binding. Minor varied blemishes. Good overall condition.
