Sefer Tehillim with the Sha’arei Chaim commentary, by the Tzaddik gaon Rabbi Chaim Sofer the author of the Machaneh Chaim, one of the leading disciples of the Chatam Sofer. Second edition, Pressburg, 1897. Originally, 3, [1], 256 leaves. In this copy, the 6 last leaves are missing. Loose binding. Stains and taping. Some detached leaves. Good overall condition. 

On verso of the title page, a dedication to Rabbi Aharon Klein , signed by Rabbi Yosef Zvi Sofer, the author’s son: "הצעיר… יוסף צבי סופר בן המחבר זצללה"ה" (see below). Above it, an ownership signature: "הק’ יעקב יצחק דאווידאוויטש". On verso of the binding, a pencil notation: "אליעזר סאבאלטש קעדעל" and a HUngarian stamp woth this name. 

Rabbi Yosef Zvi Sofer (1860-1930) was the Av Beit Din of Hajdúsámson, a student of the Shevet Sofer, son-in-law of Rabbi Amram Blum the Av Beit Din of Berettyóújfalu. He was the author of the monumental work “Igrot Sfarim” on the biography of Rabbi Akiva Eiger and the Chatam Sofer and his family. He also published his father’s works (the Machaneh Chaim, an important student of the Chatam Sofer).
