Lot 165:
Two volumes of the Bavli Talmud with Rashi’s commentary only, containing many tractates of Seder Nashim, Nezikin and Kodashim, with over a hundred significant glosses, handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Yoel Herzog Av Beit Din of Leeds, the father of Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog.
On the flyleaves, several signatures and notations by the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Israel and a handwritten notation: "ההערות הן של אבי הגרי"א זצ"ל הרינו ר’ יואל הרצוג מפריס".
A treasure trove of the Torah of this wonderous Gaon. We pray that it reaches good hands that shall merit the public with this precious gem.
Two thick volumes. Poor condition.
The Gaon Rabbi Yoel Herzog (1865-1934) served as Rav in Lomzha and several years later, immigrated to Britain, where he served as Rav of Leeds. Several years later, he moved to Paris, where he served as Rav of the Agudat Hakehilot synagogue.
